Celebrate Seuss

Dr. Seuss is my absolute favorite children’s book author. A good friend of mine gifted me two Dr. Seuss books when I was pregnant with my first child and he has been a favorite in our house ever since. My kids’ book shelves are full of Seuss classics and one of our favorite books and movies is The Lorax. So in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America week I made the kids two shirts to wear to school to celebrate Seuss. (more…)

Becoming A Runner

Me 6 months ago: Huffing and puffing, stops, bends over, sucks in air, almost pukes. “I hate running, why am I doing this?”

Me now: Huffing and puffing, keeps going. “I hate running, but I love that I’m doing it.”

How I made it from one point to the other can be summed up in one word, stubbornness. Let’s call it a gift I was born with. If I start something I will become as good at it as I possibly can or die trying. And since I’m relatively healthy there’s a slim chance that I’ll die running.

I wanted to be more fit and healthy. I chose running because it’s something I thought I could never do. Because I live by my favorite quote:

“You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

Work & Play Wardrobe

Women have a lot of roles. Mom, wife, boss, bus driver, party planner and on and on.

A couple of my roles are stay-at-home mom and occasional freelancer. I’m blessed that my former full-time employer still highly values me and asks me to come back and help from time to time. That means changing from my Florida mom wardrobe… casual dresses and flip-flops.. to my boss lady uniform.. suits and heels.

But I’ve learned that doesn’t have to cost a lot -or any- extra money if you know how to leverage one wardrobe in multiple ways for work and play. (more…)
