This year I’m completely changing the way I give Christmas gifts.

It’s important to me to give gifts that don’t contribute waste or harm to the planet. And buying from companies that help make life better for people and creatures around the world is an even bigger win.

Here are a few ways I’m trying to give more eco-friendly gifts this year.

And check out the printable cards and gift tags below.

5 Ways To Give Eco-Friendly Holiday Gifts With Printable Card

1- Buying Second-Hand

Aside from the fact that I couldn’t afford brand new designer bags even if I wanted to, I like buying them second-hand to reduce waste. You get the double benefit of saving green and being green.

My favorite place to find gently, pre-loved treasures is Poshmark. I’ve bought and sold clothes and accessories on Poshmark for years and it’s my go-to place to shop for designers I love like Kate Spade and Coach. Check out my post with tips on getting great deals on Poshmark.

If you’re giving second-hand gifts this year, be sure to check out the printable gift tags below, to let your loved ones know their pre-loved gift was carefully found for them & the planet.

2- Buying From Small Businesses

When you buy from a small business, you have a much better idea of where the products are made and how they’re made.

And having friends who make and sell their own products is even better because you can buy quality, handmade products and support a friend in the process.

I often give Christmas gifts from my friend’s bath, body and home store, Baubles & Beeswax.

3- Making Unique, Personalized Gifts

One of my favorite things to do is make gifts. When you make your own, they’re always one-of-a-kind and personalized.

Check out my list of DIY Christmas Gifts you can make on a budget. And many of the gifts you can make turn out looking really expensive, like etched glass, screen printed shirts and creations with patterned vinyl. All of my links include easy, step-by-step guides to each method.

4- Giving Gifts That Give Back

It’s important to me to spend money wisely, obviously as a frugal mom. That not only means spending less money but also spending money on great products. And when the products come from companies that help people and the planet, that’s the best scenario.

Check out my post on 12 Caring Companies. They all have great products you can give to loved ones this holiday season and feel good about their impact on equal rights, global hunger, fair wages, and marine conservation.

5- Giving Less Waste

Being more eco-friendly in your gift giving doesn’t have to stop at the actual gift. You can carry it through in the way you give the gift, by reducing waste. Put the gift in a basket, box or bag they can re-use.

If you still want to use traditional-looking wrapping paper, there are recycled wrapping paper options.

Tell Them Why

If you aim to give more eco-friendly gifts this year, add this printable card inside, explaining your reason for carefully finding, making or choosing purposeful gifts. There are two versions including options for a single gift-giver or family.

This will be in all of my gifts this year:

You can also choose a single gift tag option, explaining that the gift was handmade with love…

Bought from a company that supports marine conservation…

Or more options for second-hand gifts, and those that help feed children, pay women fair wages and improve animal welfare.

You can get the whole bundle including two card versions and six gift tags here.

Are you giving purposeful gifts this year? I’d love to read about it! Leave me a comment below.
