As my kids get older, I’m including them in New Year’s Eve celebrations more. They’re old enough to stay up as late as they can. (And they’re champs.) So I try to incorporate them into the fun and activities.
A few years ago I started doing hourly activity bags to keep the fun going throughout the night. You open one each hour and each bag holds a different activity or craft.
Activity Bag Ideas
Here are some ideas to put inside your hourly activity bags.
Party hat craft supplies
Roll construction paper into cones and tape together. Decorate the outside with stickers and other craft embellishments. Dollar Tree is a great place to get lots of cheap accessories for this craft.
Noisemaker craft supplies
Fill empty plastic bottles with confetti and other colorful items and things that make
You can also pile the noisy items on a paper plate and tape or glue another paper plate on top to make a tambourine like noisemaker.

Charade cards
Scavenger hunt list
Card game
Mad libs
Bingo cards
Plastic surprise ball
Wrap up candy or a small toy in plastic wrap, then wrap another around it, and so on, until you have a giant ball with lots of goodies hidden inside. Have the kids sit in a circle and each one takes turns pulling off plastic wrap while music plays until they reach a prize or the music stops. Then they pass it to the next kid until the ball is all unwrapped.

Sparklers
Glow sticks
Cookies with decorations
S’mores ingredients
Popcorn & a movie
Sparkling apple juice & plastic champagne flutes
