If you could imagine your own funeral, what would it look like? Who would be there? What would they do to remember you?
After experiencing Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo, I realize your funeral is a representation of who you are, how you live your life and the people you surround yourself with.
I received two complimentary tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo in exchange for my review. All opinions are authentic and my own.
And if you’re a clown, the many talented, expressive people around you, create a beautiful tapestry of color and light and whimsy that honors your life. Such is the story of Corteo, in which a clown imagines his own funeral procession. And such an incredible procession it is!
Cortéo—an Italian word meaning “cortège,” or procession—is a contemporary circus show about a clown who watches his own funeral taking place in a carnival-like atmosphere.
To use the old phrase, Corteo is a feast for the eyes. It starts with a burst of colorful activity that continues throughout the roughly two-hour show.
My photos don’t begin to do justice to the amazing, colorful performance. Please see my Corteo preview post for beautiful, professional photos.
From acrobatics and silks to pole dancing and gymnastics… it’s a non-stop treat that had us continually smiling, laughing, gasping and sometimes holding our breath.
All the way home my daughter and I, still giddy from the amazing feats, talked about what parts were our favorites until deciding we loved it all too much to pick out one or two best moments.
But I have to say, the woman who floated over the audience with the help of five giant balloons and a few pushes from people in the crowd was so much fun.
I was so thrilled with the seating. Even in a large venue, the seating was positioned in an intimate way. There were two large seating areas on either side of the stage and the performers did such a great job of playing to the crowds on both sides, that it’s surely impossible to pick a bad seat anywhere.
Two of the performers were so kind as to take a photo with my daughter after the show. As a young dancer and performer herself, she was thrilled!
Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo continues it’s run at Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida through Sunday (7/21/19), then moves on to Sunrise, Florida and to stops in Texas, Colorado, and Pennsylvania in August and September before moving on to Italy, Germany and other countries through next March.
As for me, I hope that I can live a life surrounded by good and joyful people in order to have a funeral procession that’s half as beautiful as Corteo. It’s a feeling that will stick with me forever.
