Gift-giving can be amazingly fun and even better than getting a gift sometimes. It can also be expensive. But you can find the perfect gift and save a ton of money by giving secondhand treasures.
Think about it. If you have a girlfriend who is absolutely nuts about Kate Spade handbags, would you prefer to give her a Kate Spade bag in like-new condition that you can actually afford, or something else that won’t make her nearly as happy? If I’m your friend, I’d say choose the bag. 🙂
I’ve given secondhand gifts many times to family and friends. I’m absolutely honest about the fact that the gifts are pre-loved, and it comes with the knowledge that I spent hours, likely days or weeks, scouring various places for the exact thing they would love.
Here’s where I often find great secondhand treasures. And a classy way to gift them, with printable tags.

My 2 favorite places to find secondhand gifts
Poshmark for clothes, handbags, and shoes
Poshmark is my main go-to source for high-end clothes, handbags, and shoes. I’ve bought and sold on the website for years.
Some brands I’ve purchased include Kate Spade, Betsey Johnson, Nike, Sperry, Saucony, and Ann Taylor. One Christmas I bought all my sisters and nieces Kate Spade clutches. That’s something I would have never been able to do if they were full-priced. And they were in perfect condition.
I’ve also purchased a Rae Dunn mug in Poshmark’s new Home section.

Amazon for books
You might not think about Amazon when you think about secondhand items, but you can save a lot of money on certain products there, especially books.

For my best friend’s recent birthday I saved more than $20 on cookbooks that looked brand new.
Not only can people resell their used books on the site, but companies and charities like Goodwill often list books for sale there as well.
The cookbooks I purchased were both from Goodwill stores around the country. And they were in perfect condition.

Benefits to secondhand and homemade gift-giving
One of the great reasons to give secondhand and homemade gifts is saving money. You can save a small fortune giving your family and friends pre-loved gifts in new conditions, compared to the full-priced options in stores.
Secondhand and handmade gift-giving can also have great benefits for the environment by cutting down on waste.
