How I Got My Kids To Spend All Afternoon At The Library And Love It!

Books at library - Fun Library Games For Kids - With Free Printables For Easy Summer Learning

One of my biggest struggles as a mom is not getting my kids to eat their veggies or brush their teeth or do chores. I’m very lucky that all of that comes pretty easy. My biggest challenge is limiting screen time. From TV to video games to tablets and phones, there’s always a game they want to play or a show they want to watch and it’s absolutely the end of the world if they don’t get to.

The rule in our house is no more than one hour of screen time on school nights. But I’m not going to lie, sometimes I give in and let the timer slide because I just don’t want to hear the whining or have the argument. Real talk. I’m not ashamed. It happens to the best of us.

Recently, I wanted to keep the kids out of the house for a couple of hours so my husband, who works odd hours, could sleep. So I jumped at the chance to take them somewhere I love to go, is free and where they can learn something – the library. To head off the whining and the ‘Is it time to leave yet?’ I printed off a couple of cool kids library games from the American Library Association website. (more…)

5 Favorite Crock-Pot Recipes

Moms already have a lot on their ‘plate’ even before it comes to making dinner. Among our other jobs of house cleaner, bus driver, tutor, cheerleader and shopper it’s sometimes hard to also squeeze in master chef.

My secret to culinary sanity is Pinterest. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you know I love it and use it all the time for meal planning. And one of my regular searches is ‘easy crock-pot recipe.’

As cooking goes, I think crock-pots are the coolest thing since sliced bread. I can throw in the ingredients in the afternoon, pickup the kids from school, take them to their sports activities and come home to a fully cooked dinner.

Here are five of my go-to favorites. (more…)

Art Wall On The Cheap

I’m not big into buying expensive art. I mean, I LIKE expensive art, but can’t buy it. But I do love my family and taking pictures, and that’s really all you need to make a beautiful and personal art wall. (more…)

10 DIY Halloween Crafts & Costumes

Mason Jar Mummies - 10 DIY Halloween Crafts & Costumes

Decorating for Halloween doesn’t have to be scary.. unless you want it to be.. bwahahahahahah. (Did that sound creepy in your head? It did in mine.)

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love fall weather, my birthday is in October, I love scary movies.. what’s not to love?! So I get excited when it’s time to indulge in candy, costumes and classic horror films. Exorcist is my all time favorite movie. What’s yours?

Another thing I love about Halloween is getting the kids involved in decorating. Partly because I want them to love it like I do, but also crafting and making it fun hopefully takes any of the creepiness out of it since they’re still a little young for really ghoulish stuff.

Here’s a few DIY projects inspired by Pinterest of course. You can check out my Frugal Florida Mom Pinterest DIY Halloween board for these ideas and a ton more. (more…)

Hidden Home Office

When you downsize from a two-story house to a ranch without a guest room, you need to come up with new ways to create functional spaces.

The problem – I had no place to work, print coupons or keep important papers.

The solution – turn a corner of our ridiculously big master closet into a makeshift office. (more…)

3 Simple Steps To Grocery Savings

Food is a huge part of a family’s budget. And the choices we make impact our budget and our children’s health. I use a combination of (1) planning, (2) printing coupons and (3) cashing in on rebates and rewards to save what I can without compromising smart food choices or over-buying. (more…)

Make Pampering Personal

My little girl loves going to the salon to get manicures and pedicures. It’s completely my fault for getting her hooked on it. I mean, what’s not to love? A warm bath, a massage, pretty polish. Feet never had it so good!

But alas, when we downsized to one family income, some luxuries had to go. But worry not! My baby girl can still get pampered… at home.

I created my own home nail spa for very little money. She still feels like she’s getting the four star princess treatment, and it’s a good bonding opportunity for us as well. (more…)
